Feedback on “The Worst Game of All Time”- From the Publisher!

August 24, 2007

waldo_cart.jpgI’m not going to exaggerate or embellish the truth. I am but a humble man residing on a very large web. I’m well-aware that Quad’s Corner is not a very popular place on the internet right now. Whenever I post an update, I do so with the knowledge that it’s probably not going to be read by many people. This is a small blog and I rarely receive visitors or get comments.

… Until now. It seems my previous post caught the eye of someone I wasn’t expecting. The publishers of the ill-conceived “Where’s Waldo” on the NES, Bethesda Softworks, heard about my review of their old game. And they read it. And they responded.

This marks two milestones for Quad’s Corner. It’s the first time anyone (who wasn’t a spammer) has ever actually linked to a posting of mine. And it’s the first time I’ve ever received any (human) commentary from a publisher whose game I just mocked. This is in no way like the time Left Behind Games spammed the blog when I said some words about “Eternal Forces”. It’s the real deal.

Here’s what they said on the Bethesda Soft blog :

So what are we going to stick our chest out for today? Well, both Todd and Pete pointed out to me a pretty funny blog post about the “Worst Game Ever” over on the blog Quad Corner. In his most recent post, the author bestows this title to the NES un-classic, Where’s Waldo, a game based on finding a silly man wearing stripes and a winter hat. So who released this “horrible” and “unbelievably repellent” title? That’s right, it was us!

I gotta say, seeing the name of MY blog up there (regardless of the misspelling) is damned surreal. I keep thinking that this is all a dream and that I’m going to wake up at any moment with my face in a plate of half-eaten Hot Pockets. Also keep in mind, Bethesda Softworks is not some small, run-of-the-mill throwaway operation. These are the guys responsible for the “Elder Scrolls” games, one of the most popular series out there, along with other notable franchises. They are major players in the game industry, and I’m not saying that to kiss wounds.

One of the Bethesda Soft guys left this comment in my own blog:

We fail at making NES games! Whoohoo!

If it makes you feel better, Orin, at least you made an NES game. I can’t even punch out a TADs adventure.

Quad out.
