Origin of the Name

When I tell people that my screenname is ‘Quad9damage’, they often ask me if I’m a Quake player. To answer that question: no, I am not. Before I’d picked the name Quad9damage I didn’t even know it had anything to do with Quake, and to this date I have never participated in a single Quake deathmatch. I actually got the name from old early-to-mid 90s RPGs, where 9999 (or Quad9) HP was the highest amount of damage that could be dealt to a player or enemy. And since I mostly play older games, it seemed appropriate.

About Quad’s Corner

Quad’s Corner (formerly “World 7″) was founded on October 24, 2006, when the whole ‘blog’ phenomenon was just picking up speed. At the time I’d been borrowing space on a friend’s server, and decided to move my ramblings here because I would get more traffic, and because I was too lazy to learn CSS and how to design a professional looking webpage.

I changed the name to “Quad’s Corner” in early 2007 because the original name only made sense to me. Iit was supposed to be a reference to Pipe Land in “Super Mario Bros. 3″, tying in with that whole Senator Ted Stevens/series of tubes thing. I was going to create a title graphic to illustrate this point, but let’s face it, I suck at graphic design too. Quad’s Corner sounded better anyway.

At first I was persistent about updates, but as time drew on I became less and less enthused. Part of it was due to laziness, mostly it was a case of writer’s block. BUT, rather than delete the whole thing and disappear, I have decided to use it as an outlet for self-discipline. My ultimate career goal right now is to be a freelance writer, you can’t do that if you don’t write something at least once a day. So expect the updates to start picking up speed soon.

What kind of content is on Quad’s Corner?

Multimedia-related tidbits, mostly. Television, movies, and video games are the dominant subject for now. Comic books are occassionally commented upon. I also post movie and game reviews. Since I recently forced myself to start reading real books again, I’ll probably be making room for novels soon.

Sometimes I’ll break away from the formula and comment on something else, like a popular Youtube video or something. It doesn’t make much of a difference to me. However, there are certain areas I won’t go into. See below.

What kind of content isn’t on Quad’s Corner?

Stuff about my personal life. This is about the oddities of escapist culture; my affairs stay off here. If you want to get to know me, all the info you need is on the Contact page.

Stuff about the personal lives of my friends, family, acquaintances or co-workers. Again, that ties into what I said above.

Stuff about celebrities. There are other blogs established for that sort of thing. If Lindsay Lohan’s panties (signed by Avril Lavigne) are found in Hilary Duff’s car after Britney Spears turns all three of them in for burning her house down, I’m sure I’ll read it and download all the paparazzi photos. I just won’t say anything.

Stuff about politics. The government is corrupt, the country’s going to hell, and none of that matters on this blog.

Stuff about certain opponents of the video game industry who shall remain nameless. I will only report on these nameless persons if it’s an absolute emergency (and a pretty damned big emergency, too). These persons which have no names thrive on media attention and stay afloat by having persons with names keep them in front of the public. So none of that.

I regularly post comments on PoeTV and Gamepolitics. Those sites are both amazing and host great communities. Show some love!
